Dr Duncan Hughes, MD MPH – Chief Medical Officer, Virgin Galactic

Dr. Duncan Hughes is the Chief Medical Officer at Virgin Galactic, where he collaborates with a team of experts to revolutionize access to space. With a comprehensive approach spanning spaceflight requirements, aeromedical standards, and human systems integration, Dr. Hughes draws on his experience in both the Armed Forces and the private sector to advance Virgin Galactic’s mission.  Dr. Hughes spent 28 years as a physician and Chief Flight Surgeon in the United States Air Force and brings a unique mixture of experience and training (Aerospace, Occupational & Family Medicine) to bear on the novel challenges inherent in spaceflight provided by a publicly-traded, commercial start-up company à where the astronauts more closely resemble the clientele in an Internal Medicine clinic waiting room than the graduates of Top Gun!

Dr Eddie Davenport, M.D., FACC, FAsMA – FAA Cardiologist

Dr. Davenport is board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease, a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), and a Fellow of the Aerospace Medical Association (FAsMA). In 2018, he was inducted as an Academician of the International Academy of Aviation & Space Medicine (IAASM) — one of the highest honors in the specialty. He has performed more than 10,000 cardiac procedures and authored or co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications, including two textbooks.

In Blenheim last year, we had some excellent presentations from Members. Dr Calum Young is convening the meeting and programme. We will be prioritising time allocated to these presentations with opportunities for discussion. Members will receive a newsletter shortly with further details and information about registration.
