Tribute to Air Commodore Len Thompson by Michael Drane

President’s report – Michael Drane

  • New AMSNZ logo and website – thank you to Bryan Chong
  • Members encouraged to use website and load interesting activities
  • New membership categories -student membership, other students with an interest in aviation membership
  • Aerospace medicine training programme – Air NZ and CAA MOU progressing. Looking at RNZAF involvement. Also trans-Tasman interview. Hopefully advertise for positions in the next 12 months.
  • Medical Council of NZ recognition of FACaSM specialty.
  • Patterson Trust update -Net value of trust $607,461. Educational and research support of trust is important.

Treasurer’s report – Stuart Farmer

  • Surplus $4908. Expenses $12,379 – increased ClubHub expenses due to website update, AMSNZ visit to Asia Pacific conference in Fiji,  and Christchurch conference expenses.
  • Accumulated funds $143,824  at 31 March 2023
  • Seeding Funding of $40,000 to Iceberg for Queenstown 2024 conference.

Appointment of Auditor

Proposed motion that a small group led by Kit reviews the Rule regarding the appointment of an Auditor  Proposed Michael Drane  Seconder Rob Morton

  • Organisation name change

Background:

  1. The scope and nature of this specialty has broadened to beyond just aircraft-related matters. We feel the time is right to reflect this by changing the Society’s name from Aviation to Aerospace Medical Society;
  2. It is appropriate to reflect the bicultural foundations of this country in the Society name, by updating the country name to Aotearoa New Zealand.

Motion:

We move that the Society change its name to the Aerospace Medical Society of Aotearoa New Zealand, abbreviated to AMSANZ.
