Good news from CAA!
From 1st July 2026, laminated CAA Aviation Medical Certificates are being replaced by electronic versions and emailed to applicants from their Medical Examiners. This simplified process will speed up the issue of certificates: something which initial conversations have greatly supported.
Instead of having to print off and laminate a hard copy, from 1st July, Medical Examiners will be able to email a PDF version to the applicant. This can be stored on a mobile device, (or printed as hard copy if preferred) both as a reminder of the important dates and requirements of the certificate, and also for inspection if asked.
With a laminated certificate, holders are required to return them if suspended or disqualified. This is no longer necessary with electronic versions.
Medical Examiners will be updated in more detail about the improvements – it will save time, and the cost of obtaining a replacement for a lost Medical Certificate. Note also that existing laminated Medical Certificates continue to be valid until expiry.
Key stakeholders are being contacted to discuss the updated process, and specific advice will follow. This is the “heads-up”.
Operators, training organisations, examiners and others who may need to see evidence of medical certification will be advised of the changed format through a range of channels.
